Chocolate Blues…these two words just don’t go together in my world. How could someone truly be blue from chocolate? On the same note, how can anyone eating chocolate maintain a blue state of mind? It’s just beyond my comprehension. Chocolate cures all for me, I guess (except for that pesky fat ass thing). In my opinion, “Vintage” would be a far better name for this pattern.
But, like chocolate, this little bonnet can go a long way towards combating the blues. How can anyone stay blue/unhappy/upset when looking at all this cuteness in one little accessory?
What won me over were the pom-poms. Oh, the poms! Some of you may already know of my penchant for pom-poms. The bigger the better! As a child, every hat request ended with “Don’t forget the pom-pom, Mama! A big one!”
My reluctance to embrace a pom-pom embellished hat wardrobe for myself now that I’ve reached “a certain age” can be easily cured now that there are babies I can knit cute little pom-pom toppers for!
Mommies, speak now or forever hold your peace if you loathe/abhor/detest pommage…
Pattern: Chocolate Blues from Itty Bitty Hats by Susan B. Anderson
Yarn: Cascade 220 Superwash (less than a ball of each color)
Needles: KnitPicks Options, size 7
Started: November 29, 2007
Finished: December 1, 2007
Modifications? Only one teeny-tiny minor one. More of an omission rather than a mod… I made one less pom-pom for the band surrounding the face in order to maintain symmetry. However, on the subject of modifications, I feel that there must be a far easier way to make this cute little bonnet…lots of picking up stitches and whip stitching and knitting separate pieces. It was more than a bit tedious (though not tedious enough to force me into figuring out alternatives), and the results are worth it!
I can’t wait to see how it looks on a real baby!

I agree, those are great colors together.
And if you’re gonna make one pom, you might as well make seventeen…
