While it may not look all that much different (yet), I’ve taken the plunge and moved into my own place! (don’t forget to update your bookmarks or feeds)
I’m under nobody’s control but my own. This is a good thing for a control freak.
However, it’s gonna be one hell of a learning curve, as I’m technologically challenged (hell, I’m fucking clueless when it comes to this stuff). But I hope to have some fun with it and do some different things as I learn more.
My main motivator for doing this was actually not related to blogging, but to my gift shop. I knew I wanted to set up an online presence for the shop, and figured that practicing on something else would be the ideal learning experience.
So far, I’ve “learned” how to install wordpress on a server (in all honesty, it’s more like I accidentally stumbled across the right way to do it after 4 hours (5-minute install, my ass) of muttering and cursing, and then I may have even wept for a minute or two when it actually worked), I learned how to use the ftp thingamabob, and how to change the header and the font colors (well, some of the font colors - where the hell is the formatting for the blog post titles hidden?).
Not too shabby for the technology-impaired, eh?
Next up? www.crownegifts.com!
Oh - I may have bought myself a toy recently… this one was purely selfish, purely for me, and purely for fun:
A Nikon D40x.
I took photography classes in college and was actually pretty good with the camera. I’ve had a couple of mentors along the way who said I had a good eye, but I hadn’t touched a “real” camera in many years. In fact, the last time I touched a “real” camera, it involved film and dark rooms.
Working with an amazing nature and wildlife photographer at my current job has inspired me to pick up a camera again. Not being one to do anything half-assed, I asked him to suggest a good camera and was off and running with this little baby. I think I’ll be picking up the zoom lens next month.
Even without the zoom, it takes really nice pictures. The shots I took at Fenway last week were with the new camera.
And these are too:
No, don’t adjust your monitors, it really is that bright.
From Cabin Cove Mercantile, Superwash Merino in the Highlighter colorway. More pics here. I love it fiercely and can not wait to spin it.
I guess my passion for neon isn’t going away anytime soon.
Oh, and um, don’t bother looking, it’s gone now. I bought it all.
I think I’m best being gone now, too. It’s bound to be a rough ride home in the rain and I think I’ll get ahead of the traffic.
Later!
~Bethe

What’s up the those Sox, both white and red?
That’s some kickin’ roving you have there. And thanks for the awesome yarn you sent me as a prize; I love it!

Ow, my eyes!…
That is the brightest roving I have ever seen! “Highlighter” is the perfect name for it. Very funny, that Dave.
Fabulous new toy! One very much like it will be landing at my house soon, actually. (Very excited!)
And hooray for the new digs! Declare your independence!
