Promises, Peacocks, and Partridges

April 20th, 2007 · 5 Comments

While knitting at Barnes & Noble this past Wednesday night, some ground rules for a potential Rick Springfield concert were laid down:

I had to promise Erin that I would not wear leg warmers, nor would I toss panties on stage.

yes, RICK SPRINGFIELD

Rick Springfield was my first ever concert back in 1982. I was in the 7th grade, and I adored the oh-so-dreamy Dr. Noah Drake.

I think Erin was horrified that I remember that night in such great detail:

  1. I went with my BFF Karen Kallio (the girl that introduced me to making out with boys, smoking, bra-stuffing, lying to my mother, and for telling me the truth about what a blow-j0b is ).
  2. I wore skin tight dark blue Jordache jeans, a pink and purple dolman-sleeve sweatshirt and pink legwarmers. (which is what spurred the promise of no legwarmers to Erin.) This outfit was carefully chosen because, according to 16 Magazine, pink/purple/blue were Rick’s favorite colors.
  3. I was in the fourth row, which quickly became the front row. Rick leaned over at one point, kissed me on the cheek, and dripped sweat on me. I positively swooned. I may have cried a bit.
  4. My mother and Karen’s mother were sitting at home beside themselves with worry. Rick Springfield was the first “rock” concert that ever played at The Centrum (Frank Sinatra was actually the first concert), and they were afraid the roof would cave in since it would be the loudest show the building had hosted to date. No worries. Metallica played the Centrum in the late 90’s and it was FAR louder than Rick Springfield. The roof didn’t cave. But I did have a nasty case of whiplash after that one.

So, needless to say, I’ve been singing Jesse’s Girl, I’ve Done Everything For You, and Don’t Talk to Strangers for days now. Oh yeah, I’ve also been singing The Warrior since Scandal is playing the same show along with Eddie Money. The Warrior is one of my favorite songs ever. The video was pretty cool too, Patty Smyth with the weird red, blue, and white war paint on her face…

After she was done laying down the (highly unfair) rules, Erin asked me if I have ever tried that Peacock heel everyone seems to be using on their socks lately…

(Insert blank look from me)

OH! You mean Eye of Partridge heel, right? ;)
Erin, in her defense, has been veryveryvery sick this week and we’ll leave it at that.

Since there are so many P’s in this post, how about one more?

I got these pretty, purple Birkies a few months ago. They’ve got crystals and tassels and I love them, not to mention that my toenails match. Even more love now that I’ve had a chance to wear them since we finally had a warm spring day today!

I hope you all had a happy Friday! I’ll be back soon with some actual knitting. =)

One of the girls on my soccer team saw him last Saturday here in Abq. I guess she actually knows him through a friend. She had him sign her stomach and he drew a soccer ball wishing her luck in our game. She scored a goal and was screaming, “THANK YOU RICK! GO RICK SPRINGFIELD!!!”

    It was hilarious.
